Be a Rebel.

We don’t have to live this way. Everybody tells us we have to stay attached to our devices all day. We pick them up at any moment of boredom, choosing to catch up on the latest instead of starting out the window. We know we’re afraid of missing out on the latest but we’re not sure why. We truly don’t care that much but we just can’t stop.

For 21 days we’re rebelling against the have-to. We’re choosing to leave the phone on the kitchen counter instead of having it in our pockets. We’re opening our Bibles before we open Instagram in the morning. We’re talking to God before we talk to our screens.

You know, revolutionary stuff. The kind of thing we’re going to be called radical for and told we’re not allowed to do. Enough is enough. It’s time to wake up to the war for our attention.

REBEL YOUR OWN WAY:

Work commitments or information exchange for classes or some other truly mandatory allowances for media may mean your involvement needs to be tailored to fit you. Here are some ways you might jump in:

1. Go Totally Analog

You’ll probably still want a phone that texts, but you may not need much more. Make calls and limit yourself to email-only life for 21 days and write everything else by hand.

2. Turn off Social media

None, for 21 days. You can do it. If it’s been awhile since you took a break, this is a great place to start. The effects of social media on our daily lives is apparent. Take a break and see what life can look like for just 21 days without social media.

3. Impose some Limits

Set your screen time for a wildly-restrictive time, like 10 minutes a day, and don’t click ignore! Scroll profiles instead of timelines so you know what’s up with the people that really matter to you. So many take part in intermittent fasting from food. Surely, we can do it with social media too. Set a rule that you won’t touch it from 8pm until 12pm the next day.
